The Great Wall of China was built by joining previous fortifications together, in 200 B.C. during the period of Qin Shi Huang (the first emperor of China). The construction continued until the Chinese Ming Dynasty, when the Great Wall became the biggest defense system in the world. Listed as one World Heritage by UNESCO in 1987, it is one of the greatest wonders of the world for its historical and architectural significance.
